August 15th, 2007

Tuesdays and Thursdays are supposed to be my easy days at work. Days where I don't have to do quite as much cleaning. THe problem is that Monday they moved a bunch of cats around emptying 2 rooms on the tour path. Those rooms will eventually have kittens in them, so the rooms needed to be sanitized. There's actually 4 rooms that needed to be sanitized, but only 2 that had been occupied. So yesterday morning I emptied the rooms of furniture and vacuumed all the dirt/litter/hair. I didn't get finished with that stuff until it was about lunch time. After lunch I went to try and tackle the sanitizing (I had one girl helping me for about an hour until she had to go work on an assignment). This included spraying all the horizontal surfaces with disinfectant and allowing them to sit while we worked on cleaning the windows (with professional equipment, telescopic squeegee and window sponge even). There's a ton of glass in the new building and I think it took me almost 2 hours just to get the windows done. Then I had to wipe down the surfaces that had been sprayed and run the floor scrubbing machine (which I hate). I didn't get finished until close to 3:30 and I still had evening meds to give, so I didn't get out of there until almost 4.  And I only got half of the rooms done. Very frustrating. They need a cleaning crew to come in every 2-4 weeks to sanitize the rooms. It just takes way too long for us to do them. And even if we do manage to get the cleaning done, then we have no time to work with the kitties.

Yesterday evening kind of made up for the day. I went out to Paisaino's with [info]windandtherain and then we went to see Stardust. It turned out to be a really good movie. And now I want to read the book :-).

Today was a bit better, although I was stuck in dentals most of the morning and wasn't able to get all my cleaning done until after lunch. But it did get done and I was able to weigh a couple rooms of cats. We also got new room assignments this afternoon (for tomorrow) and I think I'm gonna like these ones better. All three rooms are in one area, 1 quad (there are usually 4 rooms per quad, hence the name, but one of my rooms is extra big for retired kitties). And I have fewer cats that I have to medicate. It's just my retired guys now, and they're all really good. Before I was having to give laxatone to 2 kitties every day and a stool softener capsule twice a week and they hated it. I think the rest of the week will go much smoother. Although it'll be better once we all have our own vacuums. Right now we're having to share and there's been some vacuum stealing, which has not gone over well.

Thankfully the weeks past the midpoint and Saturday's only 2 days away, during which I will relax and attend a bridal shower for [info]homeofmyown. And Monday I will be getiing a much needed massage (this has been one crazy, stressful week). On a much happier note, the insurance check for Mr. Miagi came today. Woohoo! Now I need to schedule a time to get him fixed up.

Tomorrow is my first day of work at Hill's. I'm planning on getting up at 6:30am, which btw is waaaaay early for me. I have to be at the research center at 8am and it's approximately a half hour drive to get there. I'm sooo nervous. I'm sure I'll do ok, but still. . .

Pray for me to have confidence and to do a good job.

I GOT THE JOB!!!!!!

I will be starting on May 14th. I still have to take the drug test and mini-physical, but those are just technicalities. I'm going in to work tonight to tell my boss that I'll be leaving at the end of the month. I'll work on the Wednseday, the 2nd if he wants, but after that I'll be outta there!

It said Hill's was very interested and should be in a position to make me an offer either later today or early next week. Since it's already after 4pm, I'm thinking I probably won't hear back until next week, but I am very encouraged. He ended saying we look forward to you acceptance and working out a start date. Hooray!!

Now I'm off to take a shower and get dressed. I just woke up (I worked til 8am this morning). I hate having a night job. But that will soon be in the past :-)

Job Update

Still no word from Hill's (as of Thursday night). I e-mailed the HR asking how everything was going, if they'd made a decision, etc. So, hopefully I will get a response via either phone or e-mail. I'd really like to know if I'm going to be able to leave the clinic now or if I'm going to have to look somewhere else.

The only way I wouldn't have to do anything would be if I got some enormous windfall, which is unlikely since I don't play the lottery and don't have any rich relatives who would leave me a big inheritance.

I haven't heard from Hill's since last week when they said they were going to be checking my references and performing a background check on me. But don't be disheartened. The HR guy said that they might have an answer by the end of last week, but that it might also be into this week. When I last talked to Hill's they had wanted to talk to my current manager and he only works on Monday and Tuesday nights and I only gave them the number for the clinic. So I don't know if they've been able to get a hold of him yet or if their still trying or will forgo his testimony. I was hoping to hear something today, but that's not looking very likely since it's almost 4:30pm. But I'm still optimistic, I may hear something tomorrow or Wednesday, we'll just have to wait and see. I suppose if I haven't heard anything tomorrow, I may call or e-mail the HR guy to see how thing's are going.

I think now I'll go work on getting the guest room ready to be primed and painted.

Hill's update

I got a call on Monday from one of the HR people and had to fill out a disclosure and release form for a background check. Those aren't free. So if their willing to spend money to find out more about me, things must be going good. I hope I'll hear something by the end of this week, if not it may be into the beginning of next week.

And they wanted to talk to my current manager as part of my reference checks, so I had to inform him that I was looking for a new job. So I wrote him a letter. He new when he started that I would be looking for a day job and I told him I'd give 2 weeks notice before leaving. But I hadn't kept him informed on everything, so know he knows and can start looking for a replacement. I hadn't wanted to tell him until I was sure I had the job, but oh well. I doubt that he'll fire me out of spite for wanting to leave, since there's no one as of yet to replace me.

I had written him another letter on Saturday about the new girl's lack of work. Not cleaning the floors, cages, exam tables, surgical instruments, not entering patient notes into the computer etc was really getting on my nerves. So I wrote a him a note saying that I had left her a couple notes on cleaing the floors, etc but that they were left unheeded and to have him speak to her unless he had told her she'd be exempt from doing what everyone else has been doing and just leave everything for the next person. She's supposed to work the closing shift after me Thursday night, so we'll see if the floors get cleaned this time. Hopefully she's not rude to me for tattling on her.

Interview of Doom!!!

I was called this morning by another person at Hill's to set up an interview time. I'll be going on Tuesday, April 3rd to the research facility in north Topeka. It'll be an all day affair, starting at 11am and going til 5pm (lunch included :-) ). I'll be interviewed be several people as well as touring the facility, talking with the staff and other technicians, asking my own questions, etc. I'm so excited, but it also scares the crap out of me. My stomach I think will be filled with perpetual butterflies until it's over and will increase in fluttering on the actual day of interviewing. Wish me luck. Pray for me.

I got a message on my phone this morning from Hill's human resources about a possible job opportunity :-). *SQUEE* I'm sooooo excited now. Unfortunately, when I called him back I had to leave a message since he wasn't in his office. It's been ten minutes and he hasn't called me back yet. Is that too soon? :-)

*me to phone*: Ring, darn you, ring!!!
